Post Production

4th March

Today’s editing session was just to help us learn the basics of editing and to get all of our shots imported and ready to use and edit. Firstly we had to set up our new project under the right settings (making it DV Pal, and to put it in Widescreen 16.9) and then to set up our folder where we would store our clips on the hard drive, and put our saved project. We also used the remaining time of today to import our clips into the project and to get them trimmed (by using the mark in and mark out points) and to drag them onto the timeline, as you can see in the picture below.

Today we put our new footage that we just filmed into the project and get them trimmed and put onto the timeline. We also used the ripple delete function to get rid of some shots that didn't flow with the inclusion of these new shots. We also decided to put our dissolves into our montage sequence today, we did this by finding the right dissolve we wanted (film dissolve) under the effects tab and then dragging the effect onto the clips we wanted to put it on.

Today’s session was focused mainly on getting the music we wanted onto the timeline, we had to hunt around a few non-copyright free sites in order to collect some potential tracks that we could use. In the end we narrowed it down to using one track on repeat throughout the opening called ‘Sweep Bass’ up until the reveal and title where we use a more sinister song called ‘Dark Water Beast’ we put both of these onto our timeline after trimming them and finding the right sections we wanted. We then played around with the volume level leading up to the transition between the songs to ensure that it was clean and didn't jump. As you can see in the picture below we have now got our music onto the timeline.

Today we played around with the colour adjusting to make it seem like the shots we took today looked darker to symbolise it was early morning. We done this by looking around a few of the colour effects like saturation and tint to ensure we get the right colour across. This took us all of today’s session to do as it was a very lengthy process. By the end of it though we have achieved getting the colour right and gave it a blue effect. As you can see in the picture below where they shot has a more blue effect than the others.

Today’s editing session we was just focusing on doing our credits and managed to get them all put on. We used the titler tool to set the writing, font and font size we wanted to use. We kept all these consistent throughout our credits. After we had all of them ready to put on we made sure they were all the same length and dragged them on top of the clips where they would be. We then added dissolves to the beginning and endings of our credits to ensure that they don’t just appear from nowhere. After we done this we then watched it through and made sure it was all finished and what we wanted it to be like.
